Paramedical Tattoo Summit in Review
By Vicki Hansen, CPCP, SPCP President
Just a few weeks ago, the first-ever SPCP Paramedical Tattoo Summit took place! Not another professional gathering, but a celebration of why we do what we do.

Speaker lineup?
We invited some of the most talented, passionate, and inspiring artists in the field. Our speaker lineup was as impressive as it was diverse:
an artist who was raised in a tattoo shop,
two estheticians with skin expertise that would make any plastic surgeon proud,
several artists who have spent years fine-tuning their art,
and an artist/nurse specializing in the science behind skin healing and infection control.
It was a powerhouse group, to say the least: decades of experience, shared stories, and how to heal with art!

Medical Tattoo
Somewhere between laughter and learning, we took a moment to address the language of our craft and what it really means.
While the term “medical tattoo” is loosely used, we understand that a true medical tattoo can refer to those small radiation marker dots.
For decades, we have referred to this advanced form of tattooing as paramedical art. Some may say it’s “just a tattoo,” but restoring even a hint of normality after life traumas can create a lifelong passion for artists.
It takes skill, a delicate touch, and a deep understanding to work on compromised skin. We saw many examples of confidence-restoring tattoos.
Although we have been creating post-trauma tattoos for many years, WE FINALLY HAVE THE CERTIFICATION TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL!
Congratulations to all the new CPTP holders!
The setting couldn’t have been more fitting
sunlight pouring through big windows,
a perfect view of the local baseball field,
and great dining nearby.
Plus, there was a conveniently located bar for our wine-drinking members (no judgment, just good taste).
More than a summit:
The hum of the tattoo machines during the workshop was soul-filling. We learned, we laughed, and yes, there may have been a few tears (in a good way).
Beyond education and ambiance, what made this summit truly special was personal connections. This event allowed everyone to share, mentor freely, and build genuine, lasting relationships. It was one of those rare gatherings that, when people left, they felt professionally inspired and personally recharged.
This was more than a summit; it was a milestone. It was an event dedicated to artists who pour their hearts into helping others heal. While the summit may have been a chapter, the story of paramedical tattooing has just become much more exciting!
