Great Marketing Starts With… Talking. (Yes, really!)

By Vicki Hansen, CPCP, SPCP President

Marketing paramedical tattooing is not about fancy funnels, complicated strategies, or hiring a random person who “does social media.”
It is about starting conversations — real ones.

The funny thing? People are wildly curious about scars, surgery, and reconstruction… but almost nobody talks about them. Until you show up with… oh, I don’t know… with a T-shirt or a pair of breast tennis shoes.

In my shoe making class, my “conversation-starter sneakers” opened the floodgates. Suddenly fellow classmates were saying, “Wait… THAT’S what happens in reconstruction?!”
Mission accomplished.

Sometimes marketing is as simple as sharing your passion, your expertise, and occasionally your fashion choices.

Start With the People Already Around You

Before you market yourself to surgeons (who are extremely busy stitching things together), start with the humans around you.

Talk About What You Do — Casually but Confidently

You are not bragging. You are educating.

  • “I help people soften scars.”

  • “I complete reconstruction with 3D areola tattoos.”

  • “I help people feel whole again — without a scalpel.”

It is surprising how many people have never heard of restorative tattooing. Say it aloud and watch the lightbulbs go off.

Use Humor as Your Secret Weapon

People remember are funny.

People share funny.
People talk about funny.

A pair of Boob tennis shoes? Brilliant, if I may say so.
A temporary nipple tattoo demo? Memorable.
A scar-blending explanation using a wrinkled napkin at lunch? Iconic.

Getting Noticed by Plastic Surgeons (Without Feeling Awkward)

Plastic surgeons want great outcomes.
You create great outcomes.
Translation: you are on the same team… let them know.

a. Start with Your Existing Clients

If someone comes to you after reconstruction:

  • Take beautiful before-and-after photos.

  • Package them professionally.

  • Send them to their plastic surgeon with a note that says something like:
“Thank you for helping your patient get to this stage — here’s how we finished the journey.”

Slip in a thank-you card… even if the surgeon did not refer them to you.
(This is what we call planting seeds. Don't worry — they grow.)

b. Create a Simple Introduction Package

Surgeons do not need 40 pages, a binder, and a branded keychain.
They need simple:

  • Intro letter

  • Business cards

  • A thank-you card.

  • Some SPCP temporary nipple tattoos

  • Instructions for applying them (yes, include the important “arrows facing up”)

Make it easy. Make it kind. Make it memorable.

Befriend the Staff

Office managers are often the gatekeepers. The doctor’s nurse is the one who determines your fate as much as the surgeon does.
They are the true rulers of the kingdom.

Be nice.
Be brief.
Bring snacks if you want to make history. How about 3D Areola cookies?

Temporary Tattoos: The Surprisingly Effective Marketing Tool

Temporary areola tattoos might not seem important, but for a breast cancer survivor, they can be a powerful moment.

Be sure to Include:

  • A couple of temporary tattoos

  • Step-by-step instructions

  • A brief note that says:
“This is just a preview — come see what a real 3D tattoo can do.”

  • A link to schedule a consultation.

Why It Works

It helps survivors:

  • Visualize their restorative result.

  • Get comfortable with the idea.

  • Feel hope!

  • And sometimes… laugh. (Because temporary nipples are undeniably charming.)

The Real Secret: Conversation, Curiosity & A Little Courage

Whether you are talking to your neighbor, your stylist, a breast cancer survivor, or a surgeon, marketing paramedical tattooing comes down to three things:

  • Start the conversation.

  • Share what you love!

  • Do not be afraid to be memorable.

Humor is a fantastic icebreaker.
Compassion keeps them listening.
Your skillset and heart make them want to share your talents with everyone they know.

You Do not Need a Billboard — You Need a Voice

Our work is meaningful, needed, and deeply impactful.
We need to talk about what we do.

Start the conversation.
Wear your breast conversation piece.
Mail the temporary tattoos.
Send the thank-you cards.

Remember marketing in this field is not slick or salesy — it is heart, humanity, and a little bit of humor.

A special gift of Help and Hope

A lonely senior engages in life with a coaches help

From loneliness to laughter — the gift of help and hope in action.

By Judith Culp Pearson, CPCP, TCA and WWC Certified Life Coach

The holidays remind us how much we have to be grateful for—and how much we juggle. Between running a business, raising a family, and keeping life in motion, many are also beginning to worry about parents or grandparents who face their own challenges with change. It’s a lot on everyone’s plate.

That’s what makes the idea of coaching such a meaningful gift. Recent research shows that professional coaching can help older adults maintain confidence, connection, and clarity as they navigate retirement, life transitions, and shifting health. When seniors feel supported and engaged, it lightens the load for the whole family and creates space for everyone to flourish.

Midlife people and seniors benefit from coaching support in areas like:

• Navigating job or lifestyle changes—and addressing age‑related bias in the workplace.

• Managing relationship shifts, from loss to new beginnings, and finding renewed purpose.

• Improving health and wellness—because a professional’s perspective is often easier to hear than a family member’s.

• Enhancing emotional well‑being through a safe space to talk about life’s challenges.

• Staying mentally sharp by continuing to learn, reflect, and grow.

Some of the most meaningful gifts don’t come wrapped in ribbons—they come through care, connection, and time spent helping others find their way. Coaching offers exactly that kind of gift: guidance, encouragement, and renewed purpose for those facing the changes of midlife and beyond.

If reading this brought someone to mind—whether it’s a client, a friend, or a loved one—consider sharing the idea. Sometimes, simply introducing the possibility of coaching can be the encouragement that helps someone step into their next chapter with confidence, support, and hope.
